The SIRUI W2004 Tripod is a waterproof convertible all-rounder with its own rubber boots, suitable for unpredictable outdoors weather, water and the wilderness. It is a heavy and strong tripod - dust and water won’t mess up the mechanisms by sneaking their way into the sealed leg locks.

For the rather hefty price tag you get the SIRUI W-2004 waterproof tripod, 3x rubber feet, 3x stainless steel spikes, a 2nd mounting plate, 1x wrist strap and a good quality, although rather heavy, transport bag with a carry handle, shoulder strap, an exterior and interior zip up pocket. There is a ‘blink-and-you’ll-miss it’ sized spirit-level to ensure your foundations are level, and the tripod tubes are precisely manufactured from high quality aluminium. What possibly makes the price a little more ‘worth it’ is that it’s both a tripod and monopod in one: one of the legs, easily recognisable by the twisting leg lock at the top, it can be unscrewed (best to use the wrist strap to prevent any expensive accidents) and you will get a height of 48 - 177cm to play with.

The tripod has a height of 15.5 - 178cm, weighs a substantial 2.2kg and can handle up to 15kg. When packed down it measures up at 52cm with a tube diameter or 18.6 - 29.4mm. The legs feature three ratchet positions and can be folded up by 180°. Each leg is made of four sections with three sealed twist locks - there are handy length guides on all the legs to ensure you have them set to the right height and you can choose between rubber feet or metal spikes for stability. Other features include the stabilising hook on the centre column, fill the tripod bag with a few rocks or bottle of water and use it as a weight, and the bag strap can also be used as a tripod strap for easy transportation when quick access is needed.

Grabbing a tripod that has been stood in freezing temperatures (or very hot temperatures for that matter) for hours isn’t a great feeling, so there are soft foam-rubber grips around two of the legs. This also gives you a firm grip when wearing gloves. The W2004 has a reversible 1/4inch and 3/8inch screw for heads/cameras, a locking screw for heads, and the aluminium head support plate is fitted with a set screw for security. The centre column can be split up, height adjusted and reversed, making all shooting positions possible: get low level shots as well as extra height with the W2004!

This tripod is easy to set up: a half turn of each lock and the legs will descend, and as you fold the legs down they will automatically lock in place with some heavy-duty metal lock. When done, simply press on the lock to release and fold up again. This is a pricey tripod, but if you regularly shoot outdoors it could be a worthy investment due to its flexibility and high performance. RRP £315.00
