The EXV range from Giro has been designed to allow quick and seamless switching of lenses to adapt to changing weather and light conditions. The Snapshot Magnetic Lens system is a super-fast, idiot-proof way to change your lens. There are magnets around the edge of the semi-frameless goggles that securely guide the lens into the correct position - simply push on the upper right corner and it will click into place. To release the lens, press down on the shutter-style button on the top right of the frame and rip the lens way. This can easily be done with one hand whilst wearing the goggles.
The brilliant thing about the Contact Goggles and all the goggles in the EXV range is the wide peripheral view - they sit close to your face and wrap around your head, and the frameless sections provide excellent visuals. The Contact are compatible with Giro Helmets and feature Triple Face Foam, a three-part system that provides a plush layer against your face, a spongy soft middle layer that moulds to the contour of your features and a final durable layer that is stuck fast to the frame.
The anti-fog features on these goggles are brilliant; the ventilation and treated lenses prevent the goggles from fogging up whilst you are on the slopes, whilst the Toric Spherical shape mimics the curve of the human eye not only for superior optics, but also to prevent fogging by increasing the air volume inside the goggles. The manufacturing, testing and quality control of all the spherical lenses is provided by ZEISS, the global leaders in optical technology and photography, so you know you are in safe hands. You can choose you lens or lenses at point of purchase and can always update your collection later on.
In our test sample, we received the Vivid Ember and Vivid Infrared. The Ember is in the S2 category, meaning it is suitable for a mix of both sunshine and cloud and offers a Visible Light Transmission rating of 19-42%, whilst the Infrared is an S1 ideal for overcast and stormy skies and has a VLT rating of 43-79%.
I simply cannot fault the Giro Contact: they are comfortable, have excellent optics and a wide range of lenses that can be ripped off and replaced in a second - they are a great companion for the slopes. RRP £179.99
