The Activi-T Band by Terraillon is an activity tracker that monitors your daily physical activity by counting steps, calculating your distance travelled and calories burned, and will also monitor your activity whilst you sleep to give you an insight into your sleep patterns, duration and quality of sleep.
To start things off, we immediately came unstuck by trying to charge the device: its straps pull off and the tracker plugs straight into a USB port, but for some unknown reason it wouldn’t charge on my laptop and the USB plug wouldn’t fit into the wall with the device attached because of the way the device is curved. In the end, I plugged it into my TV. On the one hand, it’s refreshing to see an activity tracker without an over-designed charger, but the total lack of one seems a bit cheap.
Once fully charged, the two silicone straps clip back onto either end of the tracker. These straps are pretty springy, which makes putting the device on with one hand a challenge. The Large OLED screen will display the number of steps taken, distance travelled, calories burnt and the time - for a more detailed breakdown you can sync the Activi-T with Terraillon’s Wellness Coach app, where you can set goals and check your progress over time. After wearing the Activi-T for a while, we were able to get an idea of how accurate it was; when walking, it was providing on average 11steps for every 10 taken, which is pretty good. However, when I was simply sitting at my desk it would rack up to 50 steps in an hour, which is not so good.
The Activi-T Band is a reasonable activity tracker - we have definitely seen worse, but it doesn’t bring anything new to the market and is a pain to charge. It looks like a poor man’s Fitbit Alta, even down to the display icons. The only benefit is that the Activi-T can be linked up to other Terraillon products, so if you already have their bathroom scales, it might be worth adding it to your collection. RRP £50
