In the wake of working from home, (which is still a reality for many) the need for an efficient desktop set-up is vital. Indeed, having the right equipment to make your day productive is highly important. This is definitely felt amongst many in The Gadgethead office, and we were therefore intrigued when the Kensington Orbit Wireless Trackball with Scroll Ring arrived. We were particularly interested to see how it compared to an average mouse.

Firstly, whenever anything is wireless, it is a big bonus. As there are already so many wires cramping up the desk, it was a relief to have more room to use my mouse without it being constrained. The Trackball is a further space saver due to the fact it does not need the same space needed for a normal mouse, as the trackball allows the mouse to stay stationary instead of needing a wide surface to move. It also meant that the mouse itself felt really smooth to use like it was gliding on velvet, rather than my wooden desk. Plus, it was really easy to connect to my computer, using both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.

Indeed, the Kensington Orbit ensures comfort, efficiency, and productivity. This is not only due to its wireless feature, but the Trackball and Scroll Ring as well, which are great features to use. In reference to the former, this highly maximised the efficiency of my cursor, as it allowed me to be more precise in where I clicked. This in turn increased the accessibility of the mouse. This is brilliant for a range of desk jobs, either working on spreadsheets or working more of a graphic design front, the cursor has never been more useful to me. Even doing everyday mundane tasks like writing emails, it was really pleasant to use. The positioning of the Trackball in relation to the Scroll Ring is also well thought out, having been sized at the perfect point so that it can be used efficiently, whilst not being too cumbersome.

Additionally, the Scroll Ring is perfect for going through large documents, once again making using the computer much more of a breeze, which is a big improvement when compared to the average mouse. Using the specialised ring motion meant that each scroll was much more precise and not as large a jump. Alongside the Trackball, Kensington also offers ‘KensingtonWorks’, a free software that allows for a personalised experience when using the Scroll Ring, as well as providing a variety of functions. Again, this is a brilliant feature for large tasks such as spreadsheets as it provides shortcuts and allows you to adjust scrolling speed when looking over an expansive space.

Thankfully, the Kensington Orbit Wireless can be used on both Windows computers and macOS, making it the ultimate accessible gift for anyone who wants to improve their motivation and productivity. Its accessibility is further extended by the fact that it has an ambidextrous design. This demonstrates how much forethought has been put into the product as it is highly comfortable to use in both hands.

Overall, the Kensington Orbit Wireless Trackball with Scroll Ring is vital for boosting productivity and efficiency in the workplace. Particularly when the dual element lets you be so detailed in what you are doing and allows you to really make the most of your computer monitor.
