The Virustatic Shield is boasted by the company to be ‘derived by nature, perfected by science’ to utilise biomimicry to develop the materials used from natural and biobased fibres. The material is made from Virustatic’s Virusferrin® which is a protein-based textile which is known for its anti-microbial, antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres. These make a sustainable and ecologically friendly alternative to the conventional polyester used in similar kinds of face-covering snoods.

One of the best aspects of the Virustatic Shield is that it is actually completely biodegradable and compostable due to its natural fibres made from wood pulp sources. This means that the snood does not contribute to excessive environmental waste, and instead is fully biodegradable under soil, freshwater and marine environments. This commitment by Virustatic ensures that the snood does not contribute to microplastics or excessive marine litter, which polyester or even recycled polyester typically produces.
