The team at BoomCloud 360 believe that nobody should have to listen to inferior audio simply because they can’t afford expensive high-quality headphones. The BoomStick brings a boost to headphones, creating a more immersive experience whether you are listening to music, gaming or enjoying a movie.
On the website, BoomCloud 360 claim that the BoomStick is compatible with any set of headphones or earphones, but immediately there is an issue with this: it requires two 3.5mm plugs to work - one into your device and the second into your headphones. With the rise of Bluetooth headphones, more and more people are turning to wireless to listen to their music (even though the quality it still superior through cabled headphones), which makes we wonder if the BoomStick isn’t already starting off on the back foot.
Connectivity aside, the BoomStick does have its charm. Testing it out with my earbuds whilst listening to music on YouTube, I could hear a definite difference in quality. The BoomStick is compatible with headphones and portable speakers, and there are three listening modes to choose from: Bypass, which plays audio as it would usually sound; Boom, which increases volume, bass, high frequency clarity, and stereo separation; and Boost, which dramatically increases the volume, bass, high frequency clarity, and stereo separation.
The BoomStick uses psychoacoustic audio processing to add depth and overall clarity to the sound quality, but not without a touch of distortion. This was most noticeable when I used the BoomStick with my iPod, especially when using the Boost button. This little device does add a nice quality to the audio, but for the money I’m not convinced it’s worth it. It doesn’t feel high quality, it adds more cables to your headphones and is something else to forget to charge up. I think I would rather cut out the middle man and use the money to invest in better headphones. RRP $59.99
