Babies only have two jobs to focus on: eating and sleeping, but for some reason they act like these are the most demanding of chores in the world and go through stages of trying to avoid them at all costs (there is literally nothing I enjoy more as an adult). Enter Ewan the Dream Sheep! OK so you are on your own with the feeding thing, but you will certainly be able to handle that better after a good night’s sleep and that is Ewan’s speciality. Starting with the Dream Sheep, Ewan is suitable from birth, for children under 12 months he can be suspended from the cot bars via his Velcro tail or simply placed beside the Moses basket. He works by mimicking the comfort baby would have felt in the womb by creating a soft pink glow and playing a selection of soothing sounds which includes an actual recording of a heartbeat and womb, to help lull newborns and toddlers into a peaceful sleep. This Deluxe model features an intelligent MoonMode smartCRY sensor, which means it will automatically activate when baby stirs in the night, the smartCRY can listen for up to four hours and will automatically switch off if baby isn’t detected.

The removable control pod means Ewan can be washed and let’s be honest with his super cute and soft design he is going to get some serious cuddles and will need a good clean up now and then. There are four soundtracks to choose from; vacuum cleaner, rainfall, harp melody and the womb and each of the sounds has been recorded at a low base frequency, similar to that experienced pre-birth and is combined with the recording of a resting heartbeat to help little ones settle, the light and sound displays feature a 20-minute timer with automatic shut off, which means you don’t have to risk disturbing them by switching it off. The Ewan Deluxe would make an excellent gift, especially with the Baa Baa Blankie included, this sweet little comforter is super soft with a silky edging and Ewan’s familiar face, the material easily absorbs Mum and Dad’s comforting scent, making it perfect for cuddles on the go.

The Ewan Deluxe requires three AA batteries (not included) and Sweet Dreamers recommend you get six good quality rechargeable batteries and use in rotation, unfortunately there is no battery life indicator so you will only know the batteries need replacing when it stops working. We were getting about two weeks’ use with the cry sensor activated every night but without it you can easily get much longer, it also depends on the quality and age of your batteries. A better option would be that Sweet Dreamers include two rechargeable batteries, like you would get in a digital camera, for an extended life per charge. We have yet to come across a child who hasn’t responded well to Ewan, he can help comfort babies and toddlers to sleep and once they have moved past requiring his assistance, he will remain a firm friend and playmate. This cute bundle makes an excellent gift set for new parents, the entire household will be grateful for the extra sleep this little sheep can provide. RRP £51.50
