When you think of air pollution, your mind probably conjures up images of smoggy city streets packed with cars or huge factories pumping out plumes of grey smoke, but did your ever stop to consider that your home could also be filled with polluted air? Probably not, because you are a normal person, but consider the things we have and do in our house on a daily basis: cleaning, cooking, wood burners, and even outdoor polluted air getting trapped inside. The Foobot is an in-home monitor to give you a greater insight into your rooms’ air quality. It is easy to set up - simply download the app, plug in the Foobot and you will start receiving data onto your smart device almost immediately. The companion app is intuitive and gives you real-time data every five minutes, and at a glance the Foobot’s subtle, coloured LED display lets you know what your current air quality is like straight away.
You can use the Foobot with home automation devices such as IFTTT, Stringify, and/or Artick Cloud, which means you can leave the Foobot to control your air quality automatically without you needing to peel yourself off the sofa. However, you will need additional devices such as an air purifier to use this feature. The team at Foobot say that better air quality can have a direct effect on your health, sleep quality, allergies and productivity, as well as helping you control mould and damp within your home. From our tests, the sensor seems accurate; we received alerts when I was cleaning the bathroom with a cocktail of horrible chemicals and when I forgot about the bacon and turned it into shrived black leather. The temperature can be off by a few degrees, but all the other readings seem right. I am not keen on the look of the Foobot but I love the dimmable LED display, and find myself gazing at the calming, pulsing lights safe in the knowledge that I am not surrounded by invisible dirty air.
