As soon as I unboxed the San Francisco’s I was charmed by the design. The upper is made from Nubuck, a full-grain leather that has been sanded lightly for texture giving it a velvety appearance, minimal seams create a streamline appearance and the open sole construction gives them a stylish unique look. We received the brown with orange soles and laces in the men’s and brown with pink soles and laces for the women’s (also available in green and yellow in men’s and grey and mint for women). At 680g a pair in the men’s and 530g in the women’s these are wonderfully light on the feet and are one of the most breathable shoes you could treat your feet too. The GORE-TEX® SURROUND wearable technology, the ventilation holes on the sides as well as the open sole construction provides 360 degrees of temperature regulation while the GORE-TEX lining will ensure that any water is kept out whilst allowing heat and moisture to escape. It has been ideal conditions the last couple of days to test these shoes with the hot muggy days and frequent summer showers, the San Francisco GTX’s looked after both of us very well, our feet have remained dry and cool and retained a surprising amount of grip. There were a few grumbles however, we both got stones stuck in the tread, the laces do not draw in the sides particularly well unless the laces were double knotted as if not they managed to work themselves undone every so often. I also found the toe box a little too snug and after long periods of wear they would rub, it’s difficult to determine if after a few months wear they would stretch out or this would become a painful problem, yet my partner did not have any trouble in the men’s and found them very comfortable. For a travel shoe they come with a hefty price tag, are they worth coughing up for? I am undecided, but what I do know is that you will get a light and unique shoe that will keep your feet dry in the heat and the wet whilst looking awesome at the same time. RRP £125
