The Everyday 20 Backpack is a 20L backpack designed for photographers and creative types on the move. Starting on the outside, the patented MagLatch has been designed to provide “lighting fast top access”. For me, I am not a fan of this catch at all. I wanted to like it because it looks great, but it is unnecessarily fiddly, especially when the bag is lightly packed. Not to worry - thankfully Peak Design have popped on two side-loading pockets with weatherproof side zips for quick access to your gear. On the outside, there is a luggage strap on the back, but you will have to turn the bag on its side to use this. There is also a sternum strap with an unusual design that aims to be undoable with one hand, but again, the material is quite stiff and it becomes fiddly.
The Everyday 20’s expandable side pockets can carry tripods or water bottles, and come with straps to keep everything in place. There are also two straps that tuck away in the front of the bag for securing more items to the outside. At the top of the bag there is a scratch-proof pocket for sunglasses or mobile devices, as well as a dedicated laptop and document sleeve. Inside the bottom of the bag, you’ll find Peak Designs FlexFold dividers that, as the name suggests, can be manipulated in a variety of ways to help keep your gear organised and protected, and there are internally padded accessory pockets to keep small items organised.
The backpack is constructed from a weatherproof 500D Kodra shell with high-density padding that is DWR treated and poly-coated twice on both sides, and also features weatherproof exterior zips. This might be a rather shallow thing, but I don’t like the feel of the bag - the weatherproofing results in a rough, waxy texture, but if it keeps rain away from your equipment then I guess it doesn’t matter.
The shoulder straps pivot at axel connection points with the aim to optimise comfort, but they didn’t feel any different to regular straps to me. However, I would prefer them to be made with a little more padding and a softer material, to improve comfort over long periods of time or on a bare shoulder. RRP $259.99
