The Helix from Bont Cycling comes in six different styles: Conflict, Metallic Blue, White/Black, Gold/Black, Black/White, Charcoal/Shiny Red/White, and comes in sizes 4-14 with half sizes available throughout the range. These shoes are the go-to standard that Bont Cycling has to offer, boasting a race-proven anatomic fit and have a newly reimagined closure system, with loads of thought-out features to get through, let’s saddle up and get started.
These lightweight shoes weigh just 260g (Size 46.5). This strength-to-weight ratio is an important element to all Bont Cycling shoes; the Durolite material has been developed for the Helix upper for its toughness and reduced weight. The continuous wiring spreads the load for a secure hold evenly across the shoe, causing pressure points whilst the cable routing wraps around and under the rigid carbon chassis for a wide, even anchor point. There is a Single Boa dial that lets you adjust the shoe quickly whilst on a bike, which has a unidirectional monocoque chassis with a matt finish and has been upgraded with an improved grid to assist cleat adjustment. The TPU Toe Protector defends the area of the shoe from wheel rub or impact and has ventilation holes to allow cool air to enter and warm air to escape from the shoe, along with a perforated upper and tongue ensuring a good quality of breathability. There is a layer of material (similar to Kevla) stitched in between the outer leather and the liner, there to stop the shoe from stretching over time. This layer also helps with pedalling by creating a supportive structure over the top of the foot for the upward strokes. The base of the Helix is made from uni-directional carbon fibre with embedded epoxy thermo setting resin, which absorbs less resin than cross weave fibres and keeps the weight low. The closed cell memory foam keeps things comfortable and doesn’t retain water during wet conditions, and also prevents sweat being absorbed into the shoe. The Helix also features Medial Longitudinal Arch Support to prevent over pronation, an Anatomical Forefoot Shape for efficient and correct positioning, and the Anatomical Heel Cup to increase stability during the pull-through stage of the pedal stroke and up stroke, whilst the Lateral Forefoot Support system provides a neutral positioning of the forefoot. If you want a high-performing cycle shoe, look no further - the Helix will see you through from start to finish. RRP $399
