The Swing Speed Radar with Tempo Timer has been created to optimise your clubhead speed and tempo time. Endorsed by Jim McLean, this device provides you with feedback on your clubhead speed in relation to ball distance, whilst feedback on your tempo time indicates how consistent and repeatable your swing is, giving you a clearer idea of your performance and consistency. You can measure either reading alone or combine the two.

It isn’t necessary to hit an actual golf ball - you can use a Wiffle ball, Birdie ball or sponge ball, but it is best to swing at a ball of some kind to replicate the release of the club properly. This means you can safely practice in your garden or garage, and not only when you’re on the driving range or during play. You also don’t need to attach anything to the golf club to use the Radar, which allows you to use the club exactly as you would on the green with no added weight or other factors, as well as being able to switch between clubs with ease.

Easy to use, you simply set the radar up, turn it on and swing away –  there’s no need to waste time adjusting complicated settings. After five minutes of inactivity, the device will automatically turn itself off to save battery power, and to wake it up you just press the function button. The Swing Speed Radar with Tempo Timer seemed, during our testing, to be accurate and consistent (there were a few dodgy readings, but only very rarely). The build quality isn’t great for the price; the finish could be cleaner and the function button could be more responsive and better looking. However, it works well and is easy to use, helping you to get a useful insight into your swing speed and tempo, so overall, it is a useful training aid. RRP £129.99
